The Indianapolis Colts are now in the running for a hypothetical ‘Biggest Shock of the Year’ award. In a surprising move, the Indianapolis Colts have fired head coach Frank Reich. One would think that firing a head coach would be the only surprise the Colts had in store for fans. But they went a step further and hired someone with no college or league coaching experience.

Yes, you’ve read that right. The Colts’ interim coach, Jeff Saturday, is a former player and current analyst. Despite his lack of coaching experience, Colts owner Jim Irsay seems to have full faith in his abilities.

The decision came after the Colts suffered a humiliating 26-3 defeat to the New England Patriots.

Jim Irsay makes a bewildering statement

Colts owner Jim Irsay believes that Saturday is capable of taking on this role. While his faith in the former player may not be reassuring, his statements regarding the matter are bizarre.

Pro Football Focus’ Ari Meirov tweeted one of Irsay’s statements. He said, “I don’t know how to make sausage. I don’t know what goes into sausage. But I do know how to build a football team. I’ve been doing this for 50+ years.”

As bewildering as the statement sounds, it seems like confusion is the theme all around. CBS Sports’ Will Brinson also tweeted a statement from the Colts’ press conference. Jeff Saturday expressed exactly what fans were feeling about the decision when he asked Irsay, “Why am I a candidate for this?”

The Colts’ chaotic press conference included Michael Jordan references. And also had statements about the good fortune around Saturday’s availability.
