NFL Insider Offers Tua Tagovailoa Update Ahead of Cincinnati Bengals Showdown

There were great expectations from Miami Dolphins rookie Tua Tagovailoa ahead of the start of the 2020 NFL season. The former University of Alabama man made his NFL debut in the 24-0 win over the New York Jets.
Head Coach Brian Flores then announced that Tua would replace veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick as the team’s first-choice quarterback at the start of November.
The 2020 first-round pick enjoyed 3 consecutive wins with the Dolphins as they made their way to the upper half of the AFC East Division table.

However, Tua dropped to the bench in week 12. He is apparently dealing with a thumb injury. He is a major ‘doubt’ for this weekend’s game against Zac Taylor’s Cincinnati Bengals as well.

NFL correspondent Ian Rapoport gave Dolphins fans an update on the injury situation regarding their ‘golden boy’, Tua Tagovailoa.
“He’s dealing with is a thumb issue on his throwing thumb, basically banged it on the helmet. Midway through practice last week, it was swollen, really couldn’t grip the ball very well.

“And what they initially thought was a pretty minor injury is no break or anything. They thought it was minor. The fact that he could not really grip the football left him out on Sunday, and Ryan Fitzpatrick in.
“They still want to see how well he could throw, how well he can grip, and just how well he can be normal at practice today, Brian Flores said everyone’s dealing with something it’s really just a matter of kind of getting through and seeing how functional you can be.

“Real possibility, Ryan Fitzpatrick starts on Sunday, but they would like to learn more at today’s practice,” Rapoport said earlier today.
Tagovailoa has thrown for 600+ yards with 6 passing touchdowns to his name. He had a 3-1 record before he was benched for last Sunday’s win against the New York Jets.

There were certain analysts who believed that Tagovailoa should be dropped in favor of Fitzpatrick, who was having a decent season with the Dolphins. Maybe this will be a blessing in disguise for Brian Flores and Co. in the long run?
