Smith’s comments have manifested an uncomfortable situation in the WFT camp. While the quarterback did not set the league on fire with performances, he definitely did his bit to ensure the franchise made it to the playoffs.
And with Smith being the NFL’s ultimate comeback story, many feel his treatment by the franchise is one to be looked down upon.

Could the WFT have better handled the return of Alex Smith?
According to NFL analyst Michael Wilbon, the handling of Alex Smith was downright shameful. During a segment of ESPN’s ‘Pardon the Interruption’, Wilbon said the Washington franchise could’ve better communicated their issues regarding the quarterback.
“This is shameful! The Washington Football Team had to better communicate with him then, to make sure there wasn’t resentment,” said Wilbon.

“This is the worst about football and the culture of football. We have so many people talking about the values of bills and how it’s the best team sport. This is the dark side of it,” he added.
Further talking about Smith, Wilbon said that he has nothing but respect and love for the quarterback who was once struggling to stay alive following a series of unfortunate injuries and complications from surgeries.
WFT have to pull up their socks
Wilbon further questioned the franchise’s behavior and said that it’s something the management needs to introspect on.
“There’s nothing but nobility about Alex Smith. And I like Ron Rivera, for what I know of Ron Rivera. But this is shameful… I believe him and the Washington Football Team, no matter who runs it apparently, or is running it day to day, it can’t get out of its own way for smelly behavior.”

The analyst further stated that someone from the NFL office must tell the team that they must do better and rectify their mistakes.
Given the circumstances, do you feel the treatment meted out to Alex Smith was fair? Or could the franchise have done better to make the QB feel more at home?
