Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes made his way to the 2018 NFL MVP award in record-breaking fashion. Mahomes threw for 5,097 yards, 50 touchdowns, against just 12 interceptions.
At present, he is the only quarterback in history to throw for over 5,000 yards in a season in both college football and the NFL. He set the bar pretty high in 2019 by leading the Chiefs to their first-ever Super Bowl title since 1970.
The swashbuckling Mahomes was handed a blockbuster 10-year contract extension in the summer. It is reported to be valued at $500 million (excluding bonuses).
