New NFL Rules Puts Salt to the Wounds of Josh Allen and Buffalo Bills

The National Football League franchise owners seem to have heard the requests from the fans, but it might feel like ripping the band-aid off for Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen. On Tuesday, the league recently announced while approving changes to overtime rules that ensure both teams will receive possession in overtime. While it will only apply to the postseason, it will eliminate the advantage of the team winning the overtime coin toss.
According to the NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, the owners’ vote about the rule change saw the majority win with a 29-3 split. While talking about the changes, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell states, “We always listen to the fans — that’s an important thing. We’re always looking to improve, and I think what really drove the decision was the database, ultimately, and looking at the facts and what’s happened. Where we saw that most having an influence, I think, was 12 games in the postseason that have been in overtime, seven of which were won on the first possession.”

He also believes that the problem was quite glaring for almost all the head coaches and the owners to ignore.

The NFL commissioner adds that he doesn’t feel the necessity to add the new postseason OT rules for the regular season. But he didn’t dismiss the possibility while stating the league will continue to discuss the rules after every season.

Unfortunately for Buffalo and QB Allen, losing the toss meant they had to play defense first. The game ended up becoming a tough loss for QB Josh Allen and his Bills team, who put up a fight. But if the new rules would have been around earlier, the result could have been different.
