NFL Analyst Explains Whether Ravens Should Sign Lamar Jackson to a Long Term Deal

Lamar Jackson’s future is still not resolved. The former MVP is up for a contract extension this off-season. And there is doubt about whether he will re-sign with the Baltimore Ravens.
He has been one of the best players in the NFL, but the Ravens may be considering their options apart from Jackson. But according to NFL analyst Peter Schrager, that would be a mistake.
He believes that the Baltimore Ravens should be giving Lamar Jackson a mammoth contract. Furthermore, he added that Josh Allen, from the same draft class as Jackson, is up for an extension, and the Ravens should offer Jackson a deal before Allen gets one.

“I think Josh Allen is in the same draft class and he is going to get a monster contract. I would beat the Bills to the punch so you’re not doing tit for tat and say, ‘Oh well he needs more than Josh Allen’, I would just pay him what you think he is worthy of and hopefully, Lamar is receptive of it.”

Ravens should offer Lamar Jackson a new contract
He added that there are several other quarterbacks in the NFL in line for improved contracts. Schrager believes there is no reason for the Baltimore Ravens to wait for someone else to offer a better contract.
He thinks that Jackson should continue to be the franchise star for the Ravens, and there is no cause for them to look elsewhere.

“Baker’s deal is going to be coming up, Josh Allen’s deal is coming up. Your best interest is, if this is your guy, which I believe he is in Baltimore, I don’t think they’re moving on from him anytime soon.

“I feel like they are fully invested in him. Why waste any time and why worry about having to beat another number?”
He added, “Why don’t you set the market and then let them beat you? From a team perspective – sign him now, what are you waiting for?”

Will the Baltimore Ravens give Lamar Jackson an improved deal? Many would argue that he has certainly earned one. After just a few seasons, he has established himself as one of the best players in the NFL, in addition to a unanimous MVP recognition, and helping the Ravens beat their poor record in the first round in the Playoffs.
