NFL Draft 2021: Why Did Miami Dolphins Trade Back Up to Number 6?
Follow Us
The Miami Dolphins have been very active during the off-season. While they lost Ryan Fitzpatrick to Washington, that move seemed inevitable.
Fitzpatrick wanted to play in a team where he would get more minutes. But more recently, the Dolphins have been making moves in the draft. While they first gave up a Top-3 pick, it didn’t take them long to get back into the fold.
Last week, the Miami Dolphins traded their #3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft to the San Francisco 49ers for the #12 pick in this year’s draft, and several future picks.

However, they didn’t just end their business after that deal. They then traded the #12 pick and a first-round pick from 2022 to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for the #6 overall pick in this year’s draft.
But that begs the question – Why did Miami make the trade? Is there any player they have in mind? Firstly, Miami played a great hand with the trade.
They were able to secure a future 1st round pick in 2023, and a 3rd round pick in this year’s draft. But more than that, the move was made to bring Tua Tagovailoa a premier playmaker in Kyle Pitts.
Miami Dolphins going for Kyle Pitts
One of the biggest problems that Tua Tagovailoa faced in Miami last year was a lack of attacking options. He had a poor showing in his rookie year, despite being very talented.
And the fact that Ryan Fitzpatrick also struggled with creating chances with the same unit speaks volumes about the lack of options.

The addition of Kyle Pitts could help solve that. The Florida Gators tight end showed that he was one of the best players in the collegiate circuit last year.

However, his game is remarkably similar to that of a wide receiver. He averaged 3 yards per route run last season, a feat no one else at his position managed.
Will Kyle Pitts be a good addition to the Miami Dolphins? He would add significant dynamism to the Miami Dolphins offensive unit.
