Deion Sanders has been making the rounds online. The former Super Bowl champion recently went viral after his final game as head coach for Jackson State. Sanders’ move to the University of Colorado has put him in the spotlight. Although he received numerous negative reactions, the NFL legend stood his ground. Amid the tautness of the conversations surrounding the matter, another NFL legend came to Sanders’ rescue.

Shannon Sharpe is known for slicing through athletes’ dignity on his show. The three-time Super Bowl champion often delivers harsh criticism without batting an eye. But in the company of his close friend Deion Sanders, Sharpe was nothing short of a comedian. From the looks of it, not even Hall of Famers can resist the urge to good-naturedly irk their friends.

Sharpe and Sanders left fans wheezing with laughter. Even though they discussed more serious topics, one segment of Sharpe’s podcast ‘Cub Shay Shay’ deserves a rousing round of applause. The duo looked like they were in a treatment room when Sharpe made a comment about Sanders’ toes (or lack thereof). Sanders, who underwent surgeries for the amputation of his toes showed his bare foot on camera. While it is not a pretty sight, the former champion’s resilience is visible through and through.

The general route to navigate these situations would probably be the polar opposite of what Sharpe did. The former TE navigated the perhaps touchy subject by saying, “No more sandals for you, no flip-flops for you huh? You know what, maybe they do a special flip-flop.” Adding insult to injury is definitely not polite, but Sharpe went straight to addressing Sanders’ missing toes. But the latter good-naturedly replied, “He ain’t no good. Who come [sic] to visit a man and just go at my toes.”

The banter between the two, despite the gravity of Sanders’ foot, gives fans insight into the bond they share. The two Hall of Famers cracked up like children, clutching at each other as tremors of laughter took over. After all, only the best of friends face serious situations while collapsing in convulsions.

Sanders made a decision he will fervently stand by

The duo also discussed the subject of Sanders’ departure from Jackson State to the University of Colorado. Although this news did not receive the warmest of receptions from the football world, Sanders’ determination will not be shaken. When asked about how he reacted to the less-than-positive reception, he chose to be the bigger person. He acknowledged that people’s first reaction to information is often harsh due to heightened emotions. He said, “I just talk to myself, if I didn’t know who I was and where I’m headed and if I didn’t know the lord I would believe some of those things. But I know me, I know my heart.”

There are many negative opinions floating around the football world in relation to the matter. But that perhaps is the consequence of change. Change may not always be welcome. But, fans will be curious to know what Sanders can accomplish in Colorado. One thing that fans will hope to never change is the brotherly bond between Sharpe and Sanders, who provided the football world with some much-needed comedic relief.
