‘Not Going to Play at Quarterback For Saints’ – Insider Gives Latest Drew Brees Update

The Drew Brees-led New Orleans Saints made their way to the 2020 Divisional Playoffs last season. They were crowned the NFC South champions yet again, ending the regular season on a 12-4 record.
However, their campaign was brought to an abrupt halt as they lost to divisional rivals and eventual Super Bowl winners, Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The legendary Tom Brady threw for 199 yards with 2 passing touchdowns as the Buccaneers sealed a 20-30 win. In contrast, Drew Brees could only complete 19 of his 34 attempted passes.
He threw for 134 yards with 1 passing touchdown and 3 interceptions. The veteran NFL quarterback ended the season with 2,900+ yards and 26+ touchdowns.
He was rumored to be contemplating retirement this year. However, earlier this year, Brees confirmed that he will indeed return for the Saints in the upcoming 2021 NFL season.

Despite confirming his return, NFL Network correspondent Ian Rapoport does not believe that veteran QB Drew Brees will start for New Orleans Saints when the season begins in September.
He said, “I’ve not gotten any sense at all that Drew Brees is doing anything but retiring…remember, he reduced his salary to about a million dollars, just for cap reasons, to give the Saints a little more space.

“He’s not playing for a million dollars in 2021, in fact, I don’t expect him to play anywhere at all in 2021 except in the TV booth…my understanding of the situation is he just wants to do it (retire) when he is ready to deal with it and admit to it.

“That’s probably the best way to say it, he’s played football his entire life…he is not going to play quarterback for the Saints next year,” Rapoport said earlier this week.
With Taysom Hill and Jameis Winston on the bench, coach Sean Payton has plenty of options to choose from heading into the 2021 NFL season. The Saints are reportedly exploring a potential trade deal for Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson.

They also own the 28th overall pick in the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft, so it will be interesting to see how the season pans out for the reigning NFC South winners and Drew Brees as well.
