During this off-season, the drama between the Baltimore Ravens and Lamar Jackson captured the spotlight. Ravens fans and analysts were all but prepared to see Jackson leave Baltimore. There was even a tweet from the QB that hinted at his departure. However, both parties have backed down, with Jackson receiving a hefty contract. However, when the Ravens were expecting to lose the QB, they had some interesting plans for the draft.

The Ravens were projected to draft a quarterback for their team. Apparently, they were going to use their first-round pick to bring in a quarterback to fill in the void before Jackson’s departure would’ve left.

It would’ve been tough for the Ravens to enter the 2023 season without replacing the caliber of a QB like Jackson brought in. Therefore, they had plans to go for a quarterback in their first-round pick in the Draft. As per ESPN, the Ravens were going to draft Will Levis with their 22nd pick in the draft. This would’ve been an imperative step to take during the draft if they weren’t able to finalize a deal with Jackson.

However, the team was able to finalize a contract with Jackson just mere hours before the draft. If they weren’t able to come to some agreement with Jackson before the draft, Levis would’ve been the best option. However, Jackson was able to agree upon an interesting contract with the Ravens.

While Levis would’ve been a good option, Ravens were able to lock in Jackson’s contract. With the help of his mother acting as his agent, Jackson was able to get a brilliant contract. He and the Ravens agreed to a $260 million contract with $180 million guaranteed. The contract will span over 5 years. Even though his contract doesn’t come close to Deshaun Watson’s massive guaranteed contract, his future in Baltimore has been secured.
