Russell Wilson and Wife Ciara Remain In Good Books Of Seattle Community After Being Honored With Humanitarian Award

Russell Wilson was in the news earlier this year for his trade from the Seattle Seahawks to the Denver Broncos. The QB is one of the best in his position and has been a Super Bowl winner with the Seahawks. Aside from his many on-field accomplishments, Wilson is known for his philanthropy with his Grammy award-winner wife, Ciara.

In fact, the two founded the ‘Why Not You Foundation,’ which began various initiatives in the city of Seattle and is deeply involved with the community there. Through their foundation, Wilson and Ciara have both affected the Seattle community. They have also partnered with various other organizations in the city as well.

Russell Wilson is honored with a new award

Wilson recently got honored with a new award, but not for his on-field performance. He and Ciara won an award from the Seattle Sports Commission. The former Seahawk and his wife received the Paul G. Allen Humanitarian Award for 2022. The couple’s ‘Why Not You Foundation’ tweeted about this achievement.

The post congratulated the couple for the award and thanked them for their commitment to bettering the Seattle community. The tweet also included photos showing the couple with different people at an undisclosed location.

They received the award via Zoom during the 87th Annual Sports Star of the Year Awards, a Seattle Sports Commission production.

According to the SCC website, “the recipient of this award is someone who has made an impact on the greater Seattle community through their philanthropic contributions or dedication to community.”

They named the award after sports fan and philanthropist Paul G. Allen, who helped keep the Seattle Seahawks in Seattle. Wilson received the award in 2022, despite not being a Seattle player anymore. It showed the impact they still had on Seattle through their foundation.

What has the ‘Why Not You Foundation’ done for Seattle?

While being actively based in Seattle, the Wilsons started their foundation, which had led to a positive impact on the Seattle community and led them to win an award for the same. The foundation raised more than $10 million for pediatric cancer research. The Wilsons also opened a tuition-free charter school and were regular Tuesday visitors at Seattle Children’s Hospital.

Russell Wilson has not only been a spectacular player for the Seahawks, winning them a Super Bowl, but he has also remained connected with the Seattle community. He and his wife showed the initiative to do something for the people living there, which culminated in them receiving the award.
