Stephen A. Smith Goes Ballistic: Slams Dallas Cowboys After Dismal 2020 Season

Expectations were high in Dallas after the arrival of former Green Bay Packers boss Mike McCarthy in 2020. Jerry Jones brought in the veteran NFL coach to bring about a new era with the Dallas Cowboys.

However, an injury to Dak Prescott in Week 5 realistically ended the Cowboys’ chances of making the NFL Playoffs this season.

A lot of flak was directed towards the Cowboys defence featuring DeMarcus Lawrence and other big names. Experienced WRs Michael Gallup and Amari Cooper also had a silent season with rookie CeeDeee Lamb impressing. RB Ezekiel Elliott was also inconsistent throughout the season.

On the latest segment of ESPN’s First Take, popular sports analyst Stephen A. Smith went on an anti-Dallas Cowboys rant after Mike McCarthy’s boys missed out on the NFL Playoffs yet again.

He said, “Number one, if you’re the Dallas Cowboys, you’re a model of ineptitude. You’re a moribund franchise as far as I’m concerned. All you’re doing is stealing headlines.

“That’s what you’re experts at…you got the cheerleaders, you obviously got a strong fan base, you’re worth about $5 billion according to Forbes.

“You are ‘That Dude’ from a business perspective…everything but winning football games, you seem to be very, very good at as an organisation but when it comes to actually validating your stature as ‘America’s team’, the bottom line is you’re anything but.

“Or maybe you are because considering the way the state of affairs is existing in America right now, maybe we’re mediocre and that’s why we need to get ourselves right,” Smith said on the show.

The Cowboys narrowly missed out on the NFC East Championship, losing to the New York Giants in Week 17. With QB Dak Prescott scheduled to return in the preseason, can coach Mike McCarthy redeem himself in 2021? We’ll have to wait in order to find out.
