The New York Jets‘ legacy ship hit an iceberg early in the season as they crashed into the Dallas Cowboys. The Jets are looking for redemption after finishing at the bottom of the AFC East last season. But the football gods clearly aren’t impressed by their prayers as Aaron Rodgers is already out for the season with an Achilles injury in the opening game. Now, like a bone stuck in the throat, the Cowboys have once again come back to haunt them.

It’s just NFL matchweek two and the Jets are already looking for a reason to keep their heads high. They looked like a bunch of rookies against the home team at AT&T stadium. Jets’ offense captain Zach Wilson spoke to the press after the disappointing display. He, however, remains optimistic and implies it’s not over for the Jets yet.

The Cowboys drubbed the Jets 30-10 in a total mismatch as the visitors couldn’t set foot into the game. The Jets’ $103 million offense consisting of the likes of Zach Wilson and Garrett Wilson was completely neutralized by the Cowboys’ defense. Their only positive takeaway came in the second quarter when Garrett scored a 68-yard touchdown following a pass from Zach Wilson. The rest of the night was pure misery, and quarterback Zach Wilson dragged himself to the press conference to reflect on their performance.

“Absolutely frustration, emotion you know. Just things not going well, and you know as a quarterback you have to understand that it’s on you… and you got to be able to be the guy that takes it and it’s tough, and how can we just keep learning and getting better and always having each other’s backs”, Zach talked about the tough time. “And I think you know going forward no matter what, I want these guys to know I always have their back”, he still counted on his teammates.

Looking back at things, Zach hasn’t been as bad as the Jets. Not only has he been the standout performer for them, but he’s also been rated among the most valuable QBs in the league. But is there any way out for him? Well, Zack believes so, “Yeah, absolutely you know don’t get too high don’t get too low, I think that’s the message. It’s a long season, there’s a lot of games and how can we just, you know keep learning from the bad mistakes and growing and getting better. That’s it.”

What the Jets must do to not let Zach down?

With a 1-1 record, the ‘Gang Green’ has landed in the middle of uncertainty. Although not impossible, it’s going to be challenging for them to turn things around. With veteran QB A-Rod out and the first loss in hand, the Jets’ excitement has significantly dropped after two games. It’s high time they start functioning as a unit, or Zach Wilson might start to feel like he deserves better.

The Jets next face a formidable opponent in New England Patriots, on 24 September. Against the team that carries Tom Brady‘s DNA, one single mistake could prove to be too much for the Yorkers. Although far from the standard of their former self, it’s better to not count the Patriots out. They have started the season with a loss against the Dolphins as well, and the desperation for glory will shake the pillars of MetLife stadium.
