While talking about the play, Belichick states, “It wasn’t the right combination, it was a Go route. He was going on the backside to Wayne on the go… I am certain he dreamed about this all night. He starts, and he opens up in the midfield. As soon as he takes two steps in the midfield, he turns and wheels. He turns his back on the QB and beats Wayne to the ball. The best play I have ever seen a free safety make.”

Belichick again analyzed the same play with Brady in an NFL Films clip. He describes Reed as the best and most complete safety he has ever encountered. It seems Belichick would have been open to welcoming a player of his caliber, who appeared unstoppable throughout his career.
