NFL Week 5 Injury Updates: New York Giants Suffer Major Losses, Joe Burrow Takes Nasty Hit

When you play in National League Football, you know that there’s a slim chance that you will return home from a game on a stretcher. During Week 5 of the season, we saw the New England Patriots come from behind and beat a struggling Houston Texans and saw Kansas City Chiefs bow down to the mighty Josh Allen.
But a major talking point from the weekend was the injuries suffered by New York Giants players, Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley. Coach Joe Judge will be put in a major dilemma heading into Week 6. But let’s take a look at the injury list thus far.

First on the list, is the 2020 NFL #1 pick, Joe Burrow. The Cincinnati Bengals quarterback was hospitalized for a possible throat contusion following Sunday’s 25-22 overtime loss to Aaron Rodgers-led Green Bay Packers.
But he wasn’t the only player to be treated for the same injury. Cleveland Browns linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah was also taken to a local hospital in Los Angeles via ambulance as a precaution. He suffered a like-for-like throat contusion injury the Browns’ 47-42 loss to the Chargers.

Meanwhile, the Giants running back Saquon Barkley suffered a sprained ankle in the 20-44 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. He had to be carted off the field. However, his post-match scans revealed that his injury is not serious. He is only expected to miss 2-3 games on the trot for New York.

However, the same can’t be true for teammate and Giants QB Daniel Jones. The youngster absorbed a helmet-to-helmet hit in a collision with Cowboys linebacker Jabril Cox. He had to be replaced and was helped to a cart, then driven to the locker room.

There is no clear timeframe for his return. Jones will definitely have to clear the NFL concussion protocol before returning to the football field.
