“YOU Go To MY High School”: A Cocky Tom Brady Was Put In His Place By A 4x Super Bowl Champion Before He Blew Up And Became The Greatest Quarterback Of All Time
Every high school coach dreams of seeing their star player climb up the ladder of success. Similarly, Tom Brady started making inroads in high school football, and his high school coach recognized his talent. Having a dream of playing college football, Brady’s father and the coach sent out his tapes to several colleges to stir up some interest. However, a college football icon soon put him in his place.
In 1994, a player from Junipero Serra High in San Mateo, California, began dreaming of attending college on the West Coast. But Brady’s father and coach had other plans. They sent his football tape to the Michigan defensive back coach, Bill Harris. Impressed by the senior QB from San Mateo, Harris decided to investigate further.

Consequently, Bill Harris was gelling in with Brady and his father and created a strong bond. Later, the Harris returned to Ann Arbor with a great report about Brady. Further, QB coach Cartwright and HC Moeller expressed their desire to meet Brady. Hence, both coaches visited TB12 and were equally impressed. The only thing that was left was an official visit.
College choice wasn’t easy for the legendary quarterback. USC, Cal State, UCLA, and Illinois were the main competitors against Michigan. Brady also made several unofficial visits to these schools and especially USC, where he met a college football icon who later put him in his place in the most unimaginable fashion.
How did a young Tom Brady get humbled by an icon?
During one of his visits to USC, he met the former Trojans star and Serra graduate, Lynn Swann. It was the 1994 UCLA-USC game, and Brady witnessed the game that would later become his fortress and the thing he’ll be known for worldwide.

When young Tom met Swann, their exchange humbled the future Hall of Famer. Brady remarked, “Hey, I hear you went to my high school.” Swann’s response caught him off guard, “Excuse me, are you 42 years old?” Brady responded with a simple “No”, to which Swann reacted by saying, “Then YOU go to MY high school.”
In conclusion, the USC visit did not turn out to be all that well for the 7x Super Bowl-winning QB. He went on to join Michigan and wrote a script that would be narrated to later generations. He became the greatest quarterback the game has ever witnessed.
