Patrick Mahomes started Sunday’s Divisional Playoff tie against Cleveland Browns with loud applause from home fans. The former 2018 NFL MVP is a firm fan-favorite in Missouri, especially after leading Kansas City Chiefs to the Super Bowl LIV title last season. The Texas-born QB is in contention for this year’s NFL MVP award along with Green Bay Packers veteran, Aaron Rodgers.
After a slow start to the game, Mahomes upped the ante in the second quarter. He connected with record-breaking Chiefs TE Travis Kelce for yet another touchdown to hand the home team a comfortable lead. The Chiefs ended the first half with the scoreboard reading 19-3. But everything was about to change in the next quarter.

Andy Reid optimistic regarding Patrick Mahomes concussion incident
After Baker Mayfield’s failed opening drive in the second half, Mahomes was charging down the field with some smart plays once again. But a hard tackle from Browns outside linebacker Mack Wilson saw Mahomes hit the ground running. Number 15 tried to get onto his feet soon thereafter, but his wobbly legs indicated something was wrong.

The quarterback was immediately taken to the ‘blue tent’ for medical attention and was replaced on the field by backup QB Chad Henne. Later, during the fourth quarter, Chiefs officials confirmed that Mahomes was ruled out for the rest of the game due to a concussion. The Browns came close to pulling off a stunning comeback, but Henne did enough to seal a win and confirm a spot in the AFC Championship game.
