Brees had a similar situation last season as well. During the off-season, Brees was rumored to announce his retirement. However, he decided to postpone his retirement and return to the Saints for another season. Many believed that it was so he could support the Saints’ backup quarterback Taysom Hill.
Brees got the chance to see Hill in action when he suffered a rib injury earlier in the season. During Brees’ absence, Taysom Hill proved to be more than capable in the starting quarterback role. And all seemed ready for Drew Brees to call time on his legendary NFL career. But now that may no longer be the case.
