All athletes run on borrowed time. While they achieve a lot of fame and recognition for the way they play, they also have the burden of accomplishing their dreams and goals before their body stops them. With the kind of limits, they push their bodies to, athletes have advanced injuries and problems. However, in the case of greats like Tom Brady and Peyton Manning, age plays a very small factor. And this is what Serena Williams spoke about in an interview.
As one of the best to ever play tennis, the only thing standing in Serena’s way is her age. However, the world-renowned tennis player once spoke about how she was inspired by greats from other sports and their progress to survive and thrive at an advanced age.

Serena’s Inspiration
Williams has been one of the most dominant players in the game of tennis. She has been able to dominate several tours and proved her greatness. However, for any great athlete, their biggest enemy is time and aging. Interestingly enough, Serena’s career showcased how she stood the test of time. While interviewing with ESPN UK, she once revealed her true thoughts about playing at a later age. She took the example of His Airness, Michael Jordan.
Williams mentioned how technology and science development has led to the prolonging of athletes’ careers. Williams made it clear that there is a lot more information about the body as well as health. She went on to say, “I think technology has really changed and that’s the only reason I’m able to compete. I feel like if we had this technology 20 years ago maybe Michael Jordan would still be playing basketball. But I just feel like we know so much more about our bodies, things I do differently now than when I first was on tour and it’s the length of my career. And not just me as Roger and there’s Tom Brady and there’s I mean, Payton played forever.
Interestingly, Serena’s mention of Brady was very apt. Brady has been one of the few players in the league that has seen success at almost all ages. Even after the mark of 35 years old, he went on to achieve tremendous success.

The reign of Tom Brady
It makes complete sense that Brady was Williams’ inspiration. The QB has had an illustrious career even at an advanced age. At the age of 37, which is considered after a player’s peak, Brady had achievements comparable to the legend, Joe Montana. From the age of 37 up until his retirement at 45, Brady was able to win 4 Super Bowl titles, 2 with New England Patriots and 2 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Among these 4 title wins, he won Super Bowl MVP thrice. Furthermore, he also went on to win one regular season MVP. After achieving so much, he finally retired at the age of 45.

Brady has constantly proven that age is just a number. With his style of play as well as the care he puts into his body, it makes a lot of sense that he was able to have such greatness with spectacular longevity. However, only time will tell if any other player is able to come anywhere close to Brady’s longevity.
