Australian tennis player, Nick Kyrgios recently sent out a tweet to Serbian tennis player, Laslo Djere. Djere managed to clinch the Rio Open title on the 25th of February. To achieve this, he managed to defeat Canadian sensation, Felix Auger Aliassime in straight sets. The final score read 6-3, 7-5 in the 23-year old’s favour, however, in his next couple of tournaments, he was downed early.
The young Serb also made an appearance at Indian Wells, unfortunately, he was dumped out in the second round. The final score read 6-2, 7-6 in favour of opponent and compatriot, Miomir Kecmanović. Kecmanović will next face Yoshihito Nishioka in the 3rd round of Indian Wells 2019.
After winning in Rio, Djere poured his heart out in front of the fans in an emotional speech. The tennis world soon came together to laud the 23-year old Serbian as he dedicated the trophy to his parents. As it turns out, he lost his mother seven years ago and his father passed away two months ago.
Earlier today, Nick Kyrgios sent out a tweet applauding the Serb for his decision to open up. “He wrote, you are an inspiration man, you are giving people hope.”

While speaking to Tennis TV, Djere admitted that he needed to say it, despite its unusual nature. He said, “I know that people are going through tough times and really hard times. So i just wanted to show them that even if somebody’s successful and seems that his life is in order, and perfect and everything, it might not be the case. We all struggle with some things. But with hard work and belief and everything, you can push through it and you can still have a good life and a good career and you can be successful at your job.”
