Force India came into existence in 2008 when Vijay Mallya bought the Spyker F1 team and rebranded it as the team it is known as today. The upcoming Austrian Grand Prix is a special event for them as they will participate in their 200 race.

The team’s French recruit, Esteban Ocon was certainly looking forward to it. “It’s a big weekend for the team- reaching 200 races in F1 is a milestone”, said Ocon.

“I’m proud to be part of the team’s history; we represent something special on the grid and I think the sport wouldn’t be the same without Force India. Hopefully, we can celebrate this occasion with a good result this weekend.”

It will just be his second F1 weekend in Austria but the 21-year-old was clearly impressed by the Red Bull Ring the first time around. “Austria is always a fun event. It’s a cool track and very unique because of it’s layout and the mountains make for a very unusual setting”, he said.

“I am looking forward to being there on the hills and the fresh air”, he added. “The circuit is short and has only eight corners but that makes for a very tight grid. Qualifying is going to be decided by small details.”

“Any mistake will make a big difference. It is not going to be easy.”

The current F1 season has seen Force India suffer from uncharacteristic reliability issues. They are currently in 6 place with 28 points- a tally that they would not too proud of.

In fact, even McLaren- who have had so many issues of their own are ahead of them in 5 place with 12 more points. The last weekend was a disaster for them as Ocon crashed in his home race while teammate Sergio Perez’s car had to be retired due to engine issues.

They have been going through some financial troubles too and will hope to bounce back on such a special occasion.
