Track and field isn’t just about medals or records—it’s also about the unexpected relationships that shape an athlete’s journey. For 17-year-old Olympic gold medalist Quincy Wilson, one of those connections has turned into something truly personal. While many know about his relationship with Solai Russell, few realize that it’s her sister who plays an equally meaningful role in his life, as his closest friend. And of course, Quincy didn’t miss the chance to let the world know just how special that bond is…
Both Quincy Wilson and Masai Russell were trained by Coach Joe Lee, the man behind their rise to Olympic glory. They also walked the same halls as students at Bullis School, making them proud alumni of the Maryland institution. But their connection doesn’t stop there. Wilson is dating her sister’s track racing star, Solai Russel. The duo has been speculated to be in a relationship since 2024. Wilson’s girlfriend succeeded in the 60m hurdles event at the Philly Circuit in a personal record time of 8.67 seconds. Wilson’s mother, Monique Wilson, was the first to congratulate her, saying “Let’s gooo [emoji]” on Instagram back in March.
So naturally, the 17-year-old made a mandatory birthday post for the record-breaking 100 Olympic gold medallist Wilson shared a sweet birthday message along with a collage of pictures with Russell on June 17. The collage was accompanied by a heartfelt note saying, “Happy birthday gangg! Thanks for always treating me like a little brother! Keep going, twin! Gmasai Russell.”

And this isn’t the first time they have made a public gesture of af. affection. On his previous birthday, Masai had made a similar post. The caption read, “Happy birthday to my brother, my jr, my dawg🤝🖤just the beginning for you. Enjoy your day, bro🤞 @quincy_wilson” Along with Masai, her sister Solai Russel also shared a touching birthday wish for him on her Instagram story, which read: “Happy birthday to my heart❤️ @quincy_wilson” But now let’s see how the two friends train and focus for the Olympics!
Friends on and off the tracks…
Naturally, Quincy Wilson and Masai Russell aren’t just Olympic gold medalists—they’re close friends who have pushed and inspired each other every step of the way. And the testament to this is their mentor! Coach Joe Lee is surely proud to see two of his students become Olympic champions. As the coach of two of America’s youngest Olympic gold medalists, Lee has always shown determined support for their abilities. While speaking to 7News Sports, back in 2024, he said, “I’m super proud. You want to see the people who work hard and go after their goals to be rewarded at the highest level.”
After the duo won Gold in their respective events, their coach could not be happier. In an interview with NBC Washington back in August 2024, Coach Joe Lee praised his pupils after they both managed to bring gold medals in the Paris Olympics. He proudly said, “I mean it’s a dream come true. It still feels like a dream. I am like, is this happening? You know, a small school in Potomac, Maryland. And then we started our program ten years ago, and we just kind of built it and have amazing athletes like Masai and Quincy and so many others.”
He also revealed how they had to overcome several hurdles before his students could win in the Paris Olympics. Wilson fell sick just a month ago before his huge performance and had to go to the hospital. Meanwhile, Russell faced intense online trolling that fueled her determination to bag gold in the women’s 100m hurdles. However, they overcame every storm together. The trip saw greatness, and we’ll see more in the future, hopefully!
