Angela Lee reflects on ONE on Prime Video 2 contest against Xiong Jing Nan

For “Unstoppable,” the fight represents not only a chance to make history by becoming the first-ever female two-division MMA World Champion in ONE, but also to complete one of the sport’s most important and unforgettable trilogies.

In 2019, the duo split two dramatic World Title bouts – Xiong won the first with her strawweight belt on the line, and Lee won the second, successfully defending her atomweight strap.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, the Singaporean-American talked about the magnitude of her rubber match with Xiong.

“Going up to strawweight and capturing this second belt has been a goal of mine for many years now, and it’s a big moment for me,” she said.

“It’s a historical moment once again, and I’m just very honored to get the opportunity once more and I’m definitely going to be taking advantage of that.”

Of course, both MMA fighters have evolved since their last meeting, each adding new wrinkles to their respective games.

That said, in both of their 2019 battles, Xiong was able to hurt Lee with heavy punches to the body.

The atomweight queen, however, has had time to shore up that weakness.

“I reviewed the tape with my team. We have seen that was an area that was exposed in previous fights, so we definitely worked to correct that in this fight camp,” she said.

First-ever mom champion is laser-focused inside the ONE Circle

Beyond just technique and strategy, Lee has changed in the most important way: she became a mother. In April 2021, she welcomed her daughter, Ava Marie, to the world.

While motherhood may have shifted the champion’s priorities, the Singaporean-American knows it doesn’t compromise her killer instinct inside the ONE Circle.

“Ava is with me always. It doesn’t matter if I’m in the cage or wherever I am in the world,” Lee said.

“But as soon as the cage door closes, I’m able to switch that off for the time being, for the five five-minute rounds that I’m in there and focus on what I need to get done, which is protect myself at all times and finish the fight.”
