Father Reveals What Sport Intrigued Xander Schauffele Before Golf

Xander Schauffele is one of the most prominent names on the PGA Tour. He recently won the gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and fulfilled his dad’s dream. Xander’s dad was also an athlete and had a dream of winning a medal at the Olympics, which sadly wasn’t fulfilled as he met with a horrific accident that harmed his vision.
Moreover, Xander was also part of the Ryder Cup winning team and had an excellent week as an individual as well. He won three of his four games and celebrated similarly. Recently, his dad Stephan talked about the athletic abilities of his son. Let us see what exactly he has said.

Xander Schauffele had incredible soccer skills as a kid!
Xander Schauffele was born in San Diego in 1993 to a French-German father and Taiwanese-Japanese mother. Meanwhile, even though Stefan Schauffele, Xander’s dad, had to leave sports after the accident, he still could recognize talent. Hence, this ability helped him to assist Xander’s capabilities as well.

However, Xander’s dad thought that he might become a soccer player initially. Xander exhibited some insane soccer skills at the age of four that left Stefan shellshocked.
“At first, I thought he was going to be a soccer player because I had never seen anyone, at age four, at his level. Shoulder-high volleys. Left foot. Right foot,” Stefan recalled recently. “I had to pinch myself to make sure I was seeing this,” Stefan continues. “Because every parent is delusional, right?”

Moreover, Stefan, along with his elder son, Nico, and a few others, was with Xander at a sponsor promo shoot in California just a few weeks before Ryder Cup. However, Xander’s mother, Ping-Yi, doesn’t give interviews but Xander and Nico always say that Stefan speaks plenty and covers up her quota as well.
Meanwhile, Xander Schuaffele last played at the 2021 ZOZO Championship in Japan. He had a decent tournament as he finished at T28 and carded -2 for the event.
