Jon Rahm Achieves Rare Feat in 110th PGA Tour Start

Heading into the Northern Trust, fans and experts had high hopes from Jon Rahm – the current World No. 1. The 26-year-old has not disappointed, leading the event after an impressive score in Round 2. Rahm, who is currently building on his success, bagged another achievement for himself.

According to PGA Tour communications, Rahm played two rounds at the Northern Trust without making a bogey. While the weather in New Jersey draws concerns, Rahm leads with a score of 12-under. This will be the first time in his PGA Tour career that the Spanish icon has played the initial 36 holes without a bogey.

Can Jon Rahm secure the Northern Trust title?

Rahm missed the Olympics due to a positive COVID-19 test, and most people expected him to be a little rusty at the playoffs. However, Rahm seems determined to win, scoring eight-under 64 in Round 1. His Round 2 performance continued to build, finishing four-under 67. While this included seven birdies, the highlight was on how he finished without a bogey.

The PGA Tour also shared the achievement, adding that he has begun his playoffs with his longest bogey-free streak. This makes it a 36-hole streak at Liberty National, while it was a 21-hole streak earlier. It has been weeks since he was at the Open Championship, and Rahm playing as if he never left.

That being said, Rahm has had an incredible year, finishing third at the above-mentioned Open Championship. He was also playing the Memorial Tournament and had to withdraw due to his COVID-19 positive report.

Rahm has participated in the Northern Trust before, finishing T3 earlier. He was also ranked first in the World Amateur Golf Ranking before he turned professional for a record 60 weeks. Following his 2019 Open de Espana win, he became the first Spanish golfer ever to have five European titles.

While speaking to Golf Channel, he mentioned not liking the points system, deeming it unfair. “I understand the system, and the way I was told by one of the PGA Tour officials – I’m a Patriots fan, and the Patriots win everything, and get to the Super Bowl and they don’t win the Super Bowl, you don’t win the Lombardi Trophy, right?” Rahm added, urging people to understand that golf is different.
