When Jon Rahm did the unthinkable at the Augusta National
Jon Rahm was at the Augusta National for the 2020 Masters which unconventionally took place in November owing to the pandemic. It was a similar time of the year, and during a practice round two days ahead of the tournament, Rahm aced the 16th hole by skipping the ball across the pond.
It is a tradition that all players attempt when they come to the Augusta National. Skipping the ball across the pond on 16th isn’t as easy as it looks, but Rahm made it appear that way. With a swift strike of his iron, he sent the ball skipping thrice across the water after which it climbed up onto the green and miraculously rolled into the hole.

Moreover, it was Rahm’s second hole-in-one at Augusta that week as he had aced the No.4 the previous day. Since the 2020 Masters was held in November, Rahm achieved the ace on the 16th right on his 26th birthday!
“Yeah, pretty nice birthday present,” said Rahm. “Can’t complain. Hit my normal tee shot to two feet and then skipped it and made it, which is the craziest thing, the second hole-in-one of the week.”

A year later, it still remains one of the greatest shots in golf history, if not the best. While it indeed came during a practice round, the skillset of the golfer should be appreciated for the way he guided the ball into the hole.
