The Scottish Open is currently taking center stage in the golf community. Several top players are competing at The Renaissance Club as a preparation for the upcoming British Open and Rory McIlroy is one among them. McIlroy encountered a bizarre incident in Round 2 where a spectator suddenly caused confusion out of nowhere.
McIlroy, who is seeking his maiden Scottish Open victory, began Round 2 with playing partners Jon Rahm and Justin Thomas at 8:00 am (BST). As McIlroy began his round at the 10th tee, a fan startled him from nowhere at the par-5 hole.
In the video posted below, one can see Rory McIlroy having a chat with Jon Rahm when a spectator suddenly walks to the tee and grabs a driver’s headcover along with a club. He then walks over to the tee box and attempts to do something while McIlroy and Rahm stood and watched him in shock.

The fan then placed the headcover behind the tee box and went into position to take a swing with one of McIlroy’s clubs. Fortunately, security personnel was alerted and Jon Rahm’s caddie aided in the efforts.
Inevitably, the spectator was removed from the area. As he was escorted out, Harry Diamond, Rory McIlroy’s caddie, took the stolen club from his hand, while Rahm’s looper Adam Hayes was quick to retrieve the headcover of McIlroy’s driver.

It was certainly an amusing incident that Rory McIlroy encountered before his second round at Scottish Open 2021. While that did not deter his focus, McIlroy struggled to gain leaderboard sports on Friday.
McIlroy shot a par on the 10th starting from the back nine and then achieved the same result in the next two holes. The four-time major champion made a good start from the back nine with two birdies but disaster struck when he reached the front nine.

McIlroy made bogeys on the first, fourth, and eighth holes and quickly squandered his chances of registering a low round. He shot a 1-under 70 in the opening round, but could only manage an even-par 71 on Friday. Can the 32-year-old recover from this and get back into contention at The Renaissance Club?
