Ranked four in 2009 after winning the US Open, he constantly complained of this and since then, his ranking has gone down to 578.

Del Potro eventually had a surgery to help him alleviate the problem in 2014 and was forced to have another minor operation earlier this year after suffering pain and discomfort on his return to action at the Apia International Sydney.

Del Potro began his 2015 season with wrist pain and was not sure if he would play the Sydney and the Australian Open. However, at the last minute he decided to play both the tournaments. He had not played any tournament since February 2014, but he started with the 2015 Apia International Sydney with a straight-sets win against Sergiy Stakhovsky. In the second round, his opponent was world no. 19 and top seed, Fabio Fognini. It was a tough test for Del Potro, but he proved to be stronger than the Italian. Del Potro was through to the quarterfinals, but lost to Mikhail Kukushkin in two tiebreakers.

After his Sydney campaign, he was drawn to play Jerzy Janowicz in the first round of the 2015 Australian Open. Del Potro withdrew due to his wrist injury and is currently under rehabilitation.

“Rafa”, needless to say is actually quite reputed for giving more than his 100 % in a tournament, pushing himself so much that he gets injured and opts out of the next.

Nadal withdrew from the American swing due to a wrist injury. He made his return at the 2014 China Open but was defeated in the quarterfinals by Martin Klizan in three sets. At the 2014 Shanghai Rolex Masters, he was suffering from appendicitis. He lost his opening match to Feliciano Lopez in straight sets. Later, he was upset by Borna Ćorić at the quarterfinals of the 2014 Swiss Indoors. After the loss, he announced that he would skip the rest of the season to undergo surgery for his appendix.

Nadal lost to Djokovic in the quarterfinals of the French Open, ending his winning streak of 39 consecutive victories in Paris after his defeat by Robin Söderling in 2009. Nadal went on to win the 2015 Mercedes Cup against Serbian Viktor Troicki, his first grass court title since he won at Wimbledon in 2010. He was unable to continue with his good form on grass as he lost in the first round of the Aegon Championships to Alexandr Dolgopolov in three sets. Nadal’s struggles continued when he lost in the second round of Wimbledon to Dustin Brown.

She was bedridden for more than 2 months and thought that it had almost ended her career.

“I thought this maybe, would be the end of my career,” Jankovic said in Brisbane after she lost to Ajla Tomljanovic, 7-6 (6), 6-0. “It was really bad: Not sick. Just when you are injured and you have a bad back injury, you’re thinking maybe you’re never going to be able to play again at a high level. Just kept doing therapies. I was just trying to recover and I did. But there is still something in the back of my mind. Sometimes when I play I’m a little bit tense where I just don’t want to get there again.”

The 28-year-old, last played in October in Tianjin, where she lost in the second round. Currently ranked No. 15, the Serb did not reach a tournament semifinal after Rome, in May. She did manage to reach the fourth round of the U.S. Open, but lost to Swiss teenager Belinda Bencic.

“I lost my muscles and I look like jelly,” Jankovic said. “There was nothing there. Then when I saw myself in the mirror, a month ago I was like, ‘Oh, my God. I got to do some work,’ so I think I’ve improved a lot.

“With that all said, I still need to do a lot of work to get where I want to be. Because of that injury, I needed more time to recover and heal, because it was a bad injury.”
