We may have to wait a while to get a hands-on preview for the PlayStation 5 console. But, we already have an idea of what to expect from the ‘PlayStation 5 DualSense’ controller. Earlier, Geoff Keighley had announced that he was going the review the ‘DualSense’ controller at the Summer Games Fest. This is the first time we saw a third-party review of Sony’s controller. But given the current global pandemic situation, we guess Sony decided to change the norms. Here’s everything we learned about the controller.

How the PlayStation 5 DualSense feels

Geoff started the segment off by telling us how the controller actually feels. He compared it to the DualShock 4 and said that the new controller is a little heavier and heftier than the old one (in a good way). Sony did mention that they had tested the controller with different hand sizes and eventually settling on a design.

While playing the game, he showed us that it required using more than just the buttons of the controller. There was even a point in the game where you actually had to blow air onto the controller to make the fan move in-game. That was pretty impressive.

The controller also comes with an in-built speaker and microphone. Pair the speaker with their revolutionary 3D audio technology, and you’ll have the best audio experience ever. For example, we were able to clearly hear the footsteps of the characters in-game.

Eric Lempel Interview

Geoff spoke to Eric Lempel, Senior Vice President Of Marketing, Sony Interactive Entertainment, after the demo.

Eric mentioned that they wanted to reiterate what they did with the DualShock 4 but also go a step further. He went on to explain how the game developers want the players to experience every part of the game. Lempel even mentioned that the controller is an extension of the player, and how he/she experiences the game.

He further explained how Sony has tried to cater to multiple senses with the DualSense and the PS5. The next-gen graphics take care of sight, The 3D audio provides a unique sound experience, and the DualSense will aid in the touch sense.

Eric also explained how the programmable haptics and adaptive triggers will help devs make the gaming experience that much better. They will be able to make full use of it and provide the player with something different.

A little info about the PlayStation 5 console

Geoff asked Eric about the experience of the PlayStation, considering the gameplay of Ratchet and Clank. Eric answered saying how the SSD will play an important role here. He explains that such smooth gameplay was only possible on the PS5 thanks to its SSD and build. On any other console, it would be a totally different experience.

When asked about the price leaks, Eric said he had no clue how that information even appeared in the first place. There will be an official announcement soon but there is still time for that to happen.

He also spoke about the new tagline for Playstation i.e. “ Play has no limits.”

Ever since PlayStation became a global brand, Sony wanted something that encompasses the company and its mission. Over the years, there have been multiple taglines for different regions. But this particular line is something they strive for, to push their limits constantly to deliver the best.
