Filipe Luis seems set for a move away and it felt to be coming as last season he couldn’t really break into playing 11. Though given the chance he did perform well but in Mourinho’s point of view it just wasn’t enough. Azpilicueta was always the favourite, mainly because he offered more assurance at the back than Luis. While going forward, former Atletico man clearly does a better job but during the process he leaves a gap behind, which is a gamble Mou doesn’t like and made Spaniard as the clear favourite.

Chelsea are short on defense and with Luis departure it becomes a top priority to add some quality in this department. Chelsea had been linked with number of defenders now and also, the Portugal Manager has publicly confirmed that he’d be signing atleast one defender this year. So, we can expect them to add one more member to the squad in few weeks as Mourinho doesn’t like to play the waiting game.

1. Varane

Perhaps the most ideal signing would be Real Madrid youngster, Varane. Chelsea has been long linked with him and also Mou’s admiration for Varane is no secret. French International is one of the highest rated young player in Europe and would most likely jump ahead of Cahill and Zouma in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge. So, clearly addition of French man would boost Chelsea’s defense. Though there has been no official bid made yet, it wouldn’t be a surprise if one’s made soon.

2  John Stones

John Stones is another highly rated E
nglish defender who had a good season. He is already seen as the successor to John Terry to a few Chelsea faithful, a long term replacement. And in recent weeks we have seen clear indication from Chelsea to sign this talent. Mourinho’s openness about his desire to sign Stones in this transfer only shows need of the hour to sign a high caliber defender. Even though Martinez was upset about the public statement, it won’t be an issue when money starts talking. With Cahill’s open statement today it seems, West Londoners are very desperate to sign the Evertonian defender and they are willing to bid around 35 million next week. This Transfer seems likely to happen and if it does it would make Stones, The Most Expensive English Defender and it’s a title which has greater responsibilities than whatever he has ever faced.
3 Abdul Baba Rahman

The reigning champions seems to be pushing hard to sign Augsburg left-back, after Mou confirmed Luis’ departure. He’d be a good signing, a straight replacement for Filipe Luis. It is believed that the transfer of Luis be worth 16 million which will pave the way for the Blues to sign Rahman. This could be a cheap and effective deal for Blues as they look to improve their squad with very limited new players. There is no doubt about the Chelsea’s ambition to sign one defender before the deadline and considering how things are working they might end up signing two; Stones and Rahman. Will money do the talking or will Martinez be able to retain his riches, only time will tell.
