PSG showed last night in the Champions League why they are one of the best teams in the world. The maestro, Lionel Messi, once again proved to be the difference, scoring two goals. French superstar Kylian Mbappe also had a wonderful outing as he was involved in all three goals; scoring the first, assisting the second, and winning the penalty for the third.

PSG defeated German club RB Leipzig with a scoreline of 3-2. However, things didn’t end well for Mbappe. Towards the end of the match, Gini Wijnaldum put Achraf Hakimi through, who was fouled by Josko Gvardiol. A spot kick was awarded, which Messi handed over to Mbappe. Unfortunately, the forward missed from the spot.

Kylian Mbappe skied the penalty

Lionel Messi, who was on a hat-trick, passed on the opportunity and gave the spot-kick to Mbappe. Kylian went for power into the roof of the net, but got too much behind it and skied the shot. The young French forward looked stunned, as he could not add to his first-half goal.

Although he missed the penalty, Mbappe denied any claims of problems between the two players. Instead, he lauded Messi for giving him the opportunity to score a penalty.

“It’s normal. It’s respect. He’s the best player in the world, it’s a privilege to play with him. On the second, we exchanged, he told me to take it,” said Mbappe.

Despite the arrival of key signings in Paris, the team did not gel well during the opening matches. However, things are changing at Parc des Princes. Although Neymar is out of form, Messi and Mbappe are showing signs of teamwork and have improved their communication on the pitch. During their game against Manchester City, Mbappe assisted Messi’s first goal for PSG with a trademark flick.

The duo worked well in the second half against Leipzig as Mbappe squared the ball to Messi, who put it past the goalkeeper. After that moment, the young superstar won a penalty and instantly pointed to Messi for him to take it. Messi converted the spot-kick with a sensational panenka penalty.

There are signs that Messi and Mbappe are beginning to form a formidable bond on the pitch. Thus, teams in Europe must be scratching their heads as to how to stop PSG from now on. Messi weaved his magic at Barcelona but with the prospect of Mbappe with him, these two can bring Champions League glory for Paris Saint Germain.
