Red Bull motorsport advisor, Dr Helmut Marko recently opened up on the upcoming budget cap for the 2021 season. He joked that the Red Bull may have to scout for the ‘world’s best bookkeeper’ in order to stay under the budget.

For that 2021 season the FIA has proposed a $175 million ceiling to make the Formula 1 field a much more level playing ground. Unfortunately, there are still a few obstacles to navigate like some of the bigger teams, who have expressed concerns with the ruling.

Speaking to Servus TV, Liberty Media boss Chase Carey revealed: “We have a good year to discuss the problem in detail. I think the structure we proposed was successful.

“Our sport is complicated, we need rules in which everything is reliably observed.”

Now, the Red Bull man, Helmut Marko, has responded to these comments. He said: “In the worst case, we have a bookkeeping world championship in which you are disqualified two months later because you have not paid the costs. You will have to partially cut people off. development of the hyper car. We can also use a wind tunnel for both teams, Red Bull Racing and Toro Rosso together.”

However, Red Bull may not be the only ones affected by this in the long run. According to Motorsport.com, Renault have admitted that they will have to increase their expenditure.

Team boss, Cyril Abiteboul told Motorsport.com, “We are well below. In no shape or form is it a saving opportunity for us.

“We are just thinking what we need to do: whether we need to freeze the current level because we think it is way below but high enough to be competitive, or we need to increase.

“We may have to increase because it [the budget cap level] is higher than we were anticipating. Substantially higher. But it is a discussion that we need to have with our shareholders because that is not a decision I can make myself.”
