Red Bull Set a Date for 2020 Driver Announcement

The puzzle pieces are slowly falling in place, in terms of the 2020 Formula One grid. Now, it seems that even more seats will be claimed for next season, that of Red Bull Honda. According to motorsport advisor, Dr. Helmut Marko, the Austrian outfit’s line-up for 2020 will be announced after the US Grand Prix.

The team are spoilt for choice, with Pierre Gasly, Alex Albon and Daniil Kvyat to choose from. Any one of those three will be driving alongside Max Verstappen in the senior team next year. Initially, there were rumours of Sebastian Vettel returning, but Marko quickly dispelled them.

“I have no idea where Sebastian Vettel’s future lies,” the Austrian admitted to Speedweek. “We’ve had some wonderful years, but now we have four drivers. Vettel is not relevant for us”.

He even had a glowing report for Red Bull’s newest recruit, Alex Albon. Marko was impressed with how he has gelled with the team, making him a serious contender for the 2020 seat.

“He fits well into the team and impressed immediately with his debut in Belgium. He was right there from the first lap.”

Now, it seems that Red Bull will come clean about their immediate future, namely the 2020 season. “After the GP of America (early November) we will announce who will drive where,” said Marko.

It was also note-worthy that at last weekend’s Grand Prix, Verstappen teased the press. It was something along the lines of the Dutchman switching to Ferrari to replace the Sebastian Vettel.

“Charles and I could get along at the same team. We both want to win, but we respect each other. I won’t deny that there could be conflicts, but it wouldn’t be like [Lewis] Hamilton and [Nico] Rosberg at Mercedes.” said Verstappen.

Admittedly though, that would most likely be a pipe dream as Sebastian Vettel is still contracted for 2020.
