It is no secret that several venues are being considered to join the Formula One calendar. The Netherlands is one of those venues, though a proper circuit is yet to be decided. Now, the Aston Martin Red Bull team have teased fans with the idea of a Dutch GP. As of now, there are only two venues in the country that cater to motorsport, namely the Circuit Zandvoort [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circuit_Zandvoort] and the TT Circuit Assen. Zandvoort is the only one with Formula One experience. Having said that, if the Dutch GP were to return, Zandvoort is the likeliest candidate to host a race. This is because, the TT Assen Circuit mostly caters to World Superbike and MotoGP. Coming back to Red Bull, their tweet read, “Hands up if you’d like to see Max Verstappen get a home grand prix!?” So far the closest, Red Bull driver, Verstappen [https://www.essentiallysports.com/tag/max-verstappen/] has had to a home GP, is the Belgian GP. This is because he is half Belgian on his mother’s side of the family, though he is of Dutch nationality. His father, Jos Verstappen has never had a home grand prix, and having one is extra special with the majority of fans on your side. Even Red Bull have their own home race, in Austria.

The Dutch Grand Prix is a special event for multiple reasons. First, it consists of a track that's nothing short of a rollercoaster for F1 cars. Second, it's located right along the North Sea coastline, making for a fun-filled event. But most importantly, it's the base for millions of members of the 'Orange Army'.

Officially, the Zandvoort race marks F1's return to Holland after nearly 3 decades. But if we're being honest, the Dutch Grand Prix truly revolves around one man - Max Verstappen.

The Red Bull star's meteoric rise in F1 has resulted in a significant peak in interest among the Dutch for the pinnacle of motorsport.

The original track at Zandvoort paid little attention to important details like safety and viability. Back then , there were no proper barriers or mechanisms in place to properly hold a full fledged F1 race.

Redesigned with Armco and race ready tarmac, Zandvoort hosted the F1 circus during the 70s and 80s before shutting shop in 1985. Niki Lauda won in '85 for McLaren in what was then the final Dutch Grand Prix.

Fast forward to 2019 and F1 announced its return to Holland for the following season. The hype was real but sadly, COVID wreaked havoc on the 2020 calendar.

As a result, F1 called off this year's Dutch Grand Prix. Nevertheless, fans can remain optimistic of Zandvoort's much awaited comeback in 2021.

Hamilton and Mercedes are the defending Champions with the pair's dominance unlikely to end anytime soon.
