It was a terrible day in the office for the Williams F1 team as Robert Kubica brought out the red flag in Q1. The Polish driver turned in a little too early at the tight castle section and it was curtains for him.

The initial impact on the left front wrecked the suspension and he was simply a passenger. It capped off a horrible day for the team and compromised other drivers as well.

Also going out was his teammate George Russell, Renault’s Nico Hulkenberg, Haas driver Romain Grosjean and Racing Point driver Lance Stroll. It was all the more gutting for Hulkenberg as he was on a good lap and could have made it out of the elimination zone.

Meanwhile, Pierre Gasly topped the timesheets in Q1 ahead of Charles LeClerc and Lewis Hamilton. However Q2 has been delayed owing to the need to repair the barrier and clean up the track
