When Robert Kubica returned to racing action after nearly 8 years away, it was a fairytale. Sadly, that fairytale is all that remains, as the half season has spiralled off into a nightmare. The Polish driver has notched up just a solitary point this season, at the German Grand Prix.

So, in light of his poor form, he has admitted that his future is unknown and no plans are in place. His rookie teammate, George Russell has had the measure of him at the halfway stage of the season. Although he has been Williams‘ only point-scorer, that is not fooling anyone, because he lucked out in that race.

One person who has been linked to Kubica’s seat is Canadian driver Nicolas Latifi. The situation has even got to a point where even Robert Kubica himself is clueless on his future. After such a poor start to the season, which sees them propping up the rear, Williams need results.

“There are no details yet. There are plans, but not everything depends on me. We’ll see how it goes. The situation is like every year — it is necessary to be patient.”

Despite the uncertainty, PKN Orlen are backing their man to keep his seat for 2020. For now though, the Polish veteran will have to see out the 2019 season, starting with Belgium next week. One thing is for sure though, the Williams team need to get back their mojo and back to where they used to be.

It is painful to see a team that used to be champions, barely moving a couple of places up from dead last. However, George Russell seems to be performing marginally better and his star can only rise up further from there.
