Federer has a clear path as Andy Murray is out with injury. Meanwhile Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic are fighting to be fit in time for the first Major of the season. Federer Is also eyeing the world number one spot. After ending the year as number two in the rankings, he will be keen to snatch the top spot away from Nadal.

3-time Aussie Open champion Rod Laver believes that Federer will be the one to watch. He said, “Roger at 36, he’s still playing as well as he did when he was 21,”. Laver also spoke about whether the ‘Big Four’s’ dominance would come to a close. To this end, he added: “It depends on how fit Djokovic and Murray are and whether Rafa and Roger can still stay and play the same as they have done The racquet has helped them, the speed and control they get on the ball.”

Federer was in fine form and beat Jack Sock 7-6, 7-5 at the Hopman Cup. The 36-year-old has admitted that he has not given a single thought towards retirement just yet. After victory over Sock, he said: “It’s a great feeling and it’s so much fun playing in front of you guys. I’m happy I’ve got another doubles coming. I hope Belinda [Bencic] wins here singles so we’re through to the final. That would be nice. Other than that, I’ll enjoy the doubles. Hopefully we’ll see you next year. What happens… hopefully I can come back again and break another record. Who knows?”
