Swiss tennis ace, Roger Federer brushed past Alex De Minaur to lift his 10th Swiss Indoors Basel Open 2019. The former World number 1 looked at ease as he harried the Australian into making silly mistakes.

It wasn’t long before he took the first set with relative ease, with a score of 6-2. By the second set, a floundering de Minaur had already committed 14 unforced errors. When the score was 3-0 in Federer’s favour, the two engaged in a 19-shot rally, with ended in favour of Roger Federer.

Alex De Minaur fought back briefly to grab two crucial games against the Swiss star. However, that would prove to be the only bright spot for the 20-year old. In the end, Roger Federer wrapped up the game with a score of 6-2, 6-2 to win the Swiss Indoors Basel Open 2019 for a record 10th time.

It was interesting to note that this was de Minaur’s maiden meeting with Roger Federer. Sadly for the Australian, it ended in a straight sets defeat on the latter’s own stomping grounds. The 38-year old did not face a single break point through the entire match, in an encounter that lasted, a little over an hour.

Prior to meeting the Swiss legend, De Minaur saw off Reilly Opelka in the semifinals. Meanwhile, Federer himself disposed of Stefanos Tsitsipas. Such was Federer’s dominance in the entire tournament that he didn’t drop a single set.

Admittedly, he may have dodged a bullet when Stan Wawrinka pulled out, ahead of the quarterfinal. Federer’s compatriot is one of the few players who could have actually made Federer sweat.

The Basel title, was also Federer’s 103rd title in his illustrious career.
