The UEFA Champions League kicked off last night with a wonderful set of match-ups. Chelsea and Juventus won their respective fixtures while Manchester United continued their inconsistent European form with a shock defeat to Swedish club, BSC Young Boys.

In the main event however, Barca’s problems continued to mount as they lost at Nou Camp to Bayern Munich, 0-3. Ronald Koeman cannot get Barcelona back to winning ways after another loss for the team. Moreover, it was reported that Jordi Alba played despite being unwell.

Jordi Alba was unwell 24 hours before the match

The Catalonian club lost the game after Robert Lewandowski scored a brace while Thomas Muller bagged one as well. However, the inclusion of Alba was a questionable decision as the left-back struggled towards the end of the game. Reportedly, Alba had fever and diarrhea the day prior to the match. The left-back, however, put in a good shift and constantly overlapped beyond the Bayern defense.

The left-back was withdrawn during the 74th minute with an apparent hamstring injury, which dampened the mood in the camp. Alejandro Balde made his debut for the club as Alba left the pitch injured. More tests are scheduled to be done to know the extent of the injury.

Barcelona are in real trouble, on and off the pitch. With Messi and Griezmann leaving the club, they don’t have star players in the squad to take them forward. With all due respect, an ageing Luuk de Jong seems like a questionable player for the club to have acquired. While he does provide an aerial presence and a plan-B option, it’s far from the Barca style of football.
