2016 Formula One world champion Nico Rosberg has backed his former teammate Lewis Hamilton for the 2018 F1 title. Rosberg had hung up his boots nearly a week after beating his teammate for the 2016 championship. In 2017, the Briton got his prize, namely his fourth career championship ahead of Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel.

For the upcoming 2018 season, the Italian outfit are quietly confident that their car is capable of matching Hamilton and his Mercedes. Rumour has it that Ferrari are ready to win their first F1 championship since Kimi Raikkonen in 2007. However, Rosberg is not convinced yet, so he has backed his former foe to dominate for another year.

He said, “My prediction corresponds to what happened last yearSo Lewis Hamilton wins, this time just one point ahead of Sebastian Vettel. After that is Lewis’ team-mate Valtteri Bottas and the two Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo.”

But not everyone holds the same opinion as Rosberg. Former F1 driver, Timo Glock believes that Ferrari will build on their second-place finish from 2017. The former Toyota driver said, “I think Ferrari had a very good base last year and they can build on that. But pressure can change a lot, even if we see a very exciting fight to the end”. Timo Glock is infamously known for playing a role in Lewis Hamilton’s 2008 title win with McLaren. Glock currently races in the Intercontinental GT Challenge for BMW.

The 2018 F1 season gets underway next month in Australia and all teams will be raring to go. While Rosberg has firmly said that he will not return to racing, many have linked him to a potential managerial role. The move makes sense as Rosberg is still affiliated with Mercedes and the German manufacturer will be joining the increasingly popular Formula E in 2019.
