It seems like Renault cannot wait to install Fernando Alonso in the racing unit. The Spaniard is set to race for Renault come 2021. However, both parties seem to be a bit in a hurry with respect to the joining dates. Renault chief Cyril Abiteboul is trying to sneak Alonso under the Renault banner and hype fans for the 2021 season.

With the restrictions imposed in the season end testing at Yas Marina, the opportunity to test Alonso remains under heavy doubt. However, amidst the restrictions, there exist a few loopholes to conduct the trial.

“We are building the program and there are a couple of opportunities within the restrictions of the sporting regulations,” he said.

“There are things like filming days that we’ve not done so far. There is a post-season test that I have already commented on, and we’ll see where we get there.”

Abiteboul teased the audience about the exception. However, he abstained from delivering a proper date. Alonso will be taking out Renault’s two-year-old model for a spin whenever he gets the opportunity to do so.

“We also have a two-year-old car program that we can run pretty much anywhere. And he’ll probably do a bit of that also. So you’ll see him in action. But I can’t say here, where and when exactly yet.”
