It is no secret that the Scuderia Ferrari team are set in their priorities for the 2019 season. They have openly stated that Sebastian Vettel will be the number 1 driver in the team. Vettel is currently bidding for a 5th world championship in Formula One.

On one hand, the move makes sense because Sebastian Vettel is the senior driver in the team. However, on the other end of the spectrum, Charles LeClerc has been very quick and has even challenged Vettel on occasion.

At the Chinese GP, Ferrari team principal, Mattia Binotto reiterated the team’s priorities, Sebastian Vettel. Speaking to RTL, he said, “At the moment certainly we wish or who we give the preference is Seb. Because of his long experience at Ferrari and because we think he has the most potential to be ahead at the end of the season in the championship.”

However, there may come a time when Charles LeClerc will upstage Sebastian Vettel. It may be this season or the next, but it is inevitable that the protege will become the leader.

But then again, only two races have passed and it isn’t enough to pass judgement on the Monegasque driver and his German teammate. Sebastian Vettel has ample time to pull up his socks and start to respond to LeClerc’s challenge.

What doesn’t work in Vettel’s favour is the mistakes that he makes when under pressure. Bahrain 2019 was proof enough when the 4-time World Champion and Ferrari driver spun while chasing Lewis Hamilton.

Now, the big question is can the Ferrari duo take the fight to Mercedes and fend off Red Bull. Ferrari certainly believe that Vettel has the capability to do so and think that he will lead them to glory.
