It was a horrific day in the office for Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel at his home grand prix. The German driver confessed that he felt “bitter” after being unable to set a lap time in qualifying. His absence on the track was due to a technical problem with his car, which was a turbo problem.

It got worse for Scuderia Ferrari as another technical problem befell the team. His teammate, Charles Leclerc was forced to sit out of Q3 due to another problem. It was a cruel blow for Ferrari, who set the quickest lap times in all three practice sessions. Unfortunately, thanks to cruel fate, the two drivers are set to start tomorrow’s race 10th and 20th.

Speaking to the media about his woes, a clueless Sebastian Vettel said, “I don’t know what happened. Something broke with the turbo and that was game over from there.”

He continued,“Obviously [it’s] very bitter. I think the car is great and lost out on a big chance but hopefully we’ll have a big one coming again tomorrow.”

However, the 4-time Formula One world champion could take comfort in the fact that the car had the pace. Sebastian Vettel was also pleased with the changes made to his car ahead of qualifying.

“I think the car was good,” he said. “We did some changes also that should have been great for this afternoon but it wasn’t meant to be.”

“It is a shame but we will try to understand what happened to not reproduce it. It is a difficult day for the team and I hope it will be a very positive day tomorrow.

“I felt great in the car and the car felt great. Today and all weekend. It is shame it ends up like this.”

It is also worth noting that both drivers suffered different problems with their cars. According to Ferrari, Vettel’s car was affected by a problem relating to the airflow into the turbo. Meanwhile, on the other side of the garage, Charles Leclerc’s stoppage was blamed on a fuel system fault.

This was all the more gutting for Vettel as it was the second time in three race weekends that a technical problem has prevented him from setting a time in qualifying.

This weekend, Sebastian Vettel has a point to prove as there has been a lot of speculation about his future.

Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto admitted that “the entire team is bitterly disappointed” in the double mechanical heartache suffered during qualifying for the German Grand Prix. Luckily, the Maranello squad has identified the problems, both of which are new and have never been faced before.

Binotto said, “We are now carrying out an in-depth analysis of what happened. What we do know is that they were two completely different problems, neither of which had ever occurred before,” Binotto said.

“The first indications from Sebastian’s car lead us to believe it could be related to a component on the intercooler. The component is to the same specification as those used previously and it was fitted new. Charles had a problem with the fuel pump control unit.

“At the moment the entire team is bitterly disappointed. We feel especially sorry for our drivers who were in with the chance of doing something special for the people back in the factory who are working so hard and for all our fans.”
