It has been reported that an African billionaire is set to take over the English soccer club Sheffield United. Sheffield United Football Club is an English professional soccer club based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. They currently compete in the EFL Championship, the second tier of English football.

The team is eyeing promotion to the Premier League sitting at the second position with a comfortable 12-point lead from the third place. However, things haven’t all been great as the club was put up for sale by current Saudi Arabian owner, H.R.H Prince Abdullah bin Musa’ad bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

This came as he was struggling to keep funding the club. Things worsened when a Transfer embargo was put last month on the club. This stopped the club from making any signings unless they win promotion.

Sheffield’s takeover can be a saving grace for this soccer club

This embargo came after Sheffield failed to pay up the installments of their transfers. This included one with Liverpool for forward, Rhian Brewster, who signed with the team back in 2020. Now, according to The Times, an African billionaire is set to take over the club in a deal worth $110 million. However, the identity of the individual has not been revealed.

This could be a saving grace as the team was looking to sell their star midfielder, Sander Berge, to make up for the financial crisis that the team had been going through. But with a new investor and such a huge takeover, the club can be back on track and potentially promoted to the Premier League. The club made its last appearance in the PL in the 2020-21 season.
