After a disappointing match against Al Nassr, Al Ettifaq manager Steven Gerrard has voiced his disappointment to the team’s higher authorities regarding their team quality. This outpouring of emotion came after a 3-1 loss to Cristiano Ronaldo‘s Al Nassr, a defeat that left Gerrard convinced that new players are needed for the team to become serious title contenders.

Cristiano Ronaldo had an impressive showing during the match, scoring his 51st goal of 2023 and even providing an assist. Gerrard, impressed by Ronaldo’s performance, even  dubbed him a “goal machine.” And it seems that the Liverpool legend desires the same level of talent for his team in the upcoming transfer window.

“We need to show in this window, and also the summer window, that we mean business and we want to be competitive at the top of the league, and not where we are at the moment,” Gerrard stated, as reported by ESPN. His message is clear: it is time for both the players and management to step up their game and initiate the necessary changes.

With the hope of strengthening the squad, the former Aston Villa manager stated, “Hopefully at the back end of January, you will see a different, stronger, and more competitive squad.” Al Ettifaq’s current position in the Saudi Pro League(8) serves as a stark reminder of why Gerrard is pushing for additional signings.

Since joining Al Ettifaq, Steven Gerrard has signed players such as Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum, and Moussa Dembele. However, to further enhance the team’s performance, it appears that additional signings are required. Recent reports indicate that he has already set his sights on securing Cristiano Ronaldo’s teammate.

Al Ettifaq’s primary target for the January transfer window appears to be Abdullah Madu, a center-back from Al Nassr. Reports suggest that Steven Gerrard himself has specifically requested the signing of this 30-year-old player. Madu, in the current season, hasn’t received much playtime under Luis Castro.

Another player that has caught the 43-year-old’s attention is Egyptian midfielder Zizo. In fact, there are even rumors that Gerrard reached out to Mohammed Salah for information on Zizo. The January transfer window will be an intriguing period for Al Ettifaq as we wait to see how they fare in their pursuits.
