Shakira recently opened up about the year that she had, following her split with ex-boyfriend Gerard Pique. Shakira and Pique, during their 11-year relationship, had two children. But this love story ended in June 2022 when the couple announced their split.
In an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Shakira talked about her recent track with Bizarrap, ‘BZRP Music Sessions #53’. The song is a subtle response to Pique, who was the main reason for their breakup.

On the popular American talk show, the Colombian singer opened up about the past year, which she called “a very rough year,” and how writing the diss track has helped her deal with her emotions. “You know, I’ve had a very rough year after my separation, and writing this song has been so important to me,” Shakira shared. “It’s been a healthy way to channel my emotions”.

She went on to talk about her fans, and how her song has served as an inspiration to many women who have gone through the same experience. “And I feel that, you know, after we put out this song, I really felt that I don’t only have fans out there,” The Latin singer revealed. “I have a sisterhood of women who have been through the same things I’ve been through, who think the way I think, who feel the way I feel, who had to put up so much crap the way I had to.”
She further added, “And, you know, I did write the song for me, but also I feel that it was meant to be and probably for so many women out there that needed a forum, too, and a voice to represent them in so many ways”.

Shakira’s diss track has made history, not just for the singer herself but also for the Latin music industry as a whole. The song broke four Guinness World records. It set the record for the most viewed Latin music video on YouTube in 24 hours, with over 63 million views. The song also became the fastest Latin track to reach 100 million views on YouTube, along with being the most streamed Latin song on Spotify within 24 hours and a week.
