Lionel Messi can’t seem to catch a break. The Argentine has found himself in the center of an international drama after he failed to take to the field during Inter Miami‘s friendly clash against Hong Kong. Despite his apology, the soccer fraternity seems to be unhappy with the player, with many urging the organizers to issue a refund. The Chinese government officials have also taken measures against Messi’s actions, with Inter Miami getting a reduced paycheck for their friendly clash against Hong Kong. Well, it seems like the issues did not end there. According to reports, mainland authorities are disheartened by Messi’s actions and have allegedly scrapped Argentina’s friendly clash with China.

Likewise, fans severely booed Lionel Messi during Inter Miami’s clash against Hong Kong XI. Fans in attendance did not take too kindly to the player sitting on the bench after paying a considerable amount to see him in action. The tour organizers have done their best to control the fan fury, promising fans a 50% refund on purchases through the official platforms. It seems like Messi-mania hasn’t hit the country well!

News spread like wildfire last night as the Chinese government made a massive announcement. According to emerging reports, the officials have scrapped the national team’s friendly clash against the Albiceleste. The two sides were supposed to meet in Hangzhou later this year. However, it seems like the game is no longer happening. Undoubtedly, it would take a hit on their kitty bags, right?

It is a rough blow for the Argentine national team, who would have made adequate revenue through their friendly visit to China. Nevertheless, it appears that the officials on the mainland are displeased with Messi’s conduct in Hong Kong. They have no intention of associating with the Argentine icon. While La Pulga tried his best to control the damage with an official apology to the fans, they are not ready to forgive La Pulga just yet. Despite the complications, Messi apologized for breaking their hearts.

Lionel Messi issues an apology to Hong Kong fans

The Argentine star talked with the fans earlier this week during Inter Miami’s visit to Japan. While communicating with the fans, Messi conversed about his absence from the game against Hong Kong while addressing the fan outrage due to his absence. He said, “Anyone who knows me knows that I always want to play, especially in these games where we travel so far, and people are excited to see our games. Hopefully, we can come back and play a game in Hong Kong.”

On the other hand, La Pulga made an appearance off the bench during his team’s clash against Vissel Kobe. However, his presence was not enough to ensure the win for his side as the game dragged onto the penalties. The Herons failed to keep their feet on the ground, missing two crucial shots that saw the former J-League champions bag a 4-3 win. Therefore, Chinese fans would hope for Messi to play a game in their country in the future. Do you think he should have appeared after extravagant ticket prices?
