As if the Erling Haaland injury wasn’t enough already for Norway! Before the final game against Scotland, the team and the fanbase received another piece of bad news. Norway has failed to qualify for the Euro 2024 in Germany.

Norway’s last major tournament appearance was in the year 2000 when they made their only appearance to date in the European championship. Fans will have to continue waiting even longer to see their team playing in major international competitions among the big nations, including the Euro. This is also a setback to the personal ambitions of the Manchester City talisman, Haaland. The bad news doesn’t seem to stop coming for Norwegian fans.

The Norway fans were recently handed the worst news. The team’s chances to play in UEFA Euro no longer exist as it’s now mathematically impossible for the team to qualify for the playoffs too. This happened as Israel did not qualify directly after the 1-2 loss against Romania. Although Norway stands third in Group A behind Spain and Scotland, they still had a chance to get by through the UEFA Nations League, only if Israel had qualified directly.

The fanbase was already stressed out surrounding the potential unavailability of their star striker Erling Haaland due to an injury. This sword that struck off their Euro 2024 hopes rubbed salt in the wounds of the fans. The current contenders from Group A who have qualified are Spain and Scotland.

Soccer pundits Craig Burley and Jan Aage Fjortoft came out in support of the Manchester City star striker. Craig Burley said, “Erling Haaland has to get used to this type of results. He cannot now change countries.”. Jan Aage Fjortoft has also pointed out problems in the current Norway squad. He acknowledged that there is a quality in the attacking half with Haaland and Odegaard. However, the issue remains with defense as the team conceded too many goals in the last 15 minutes.

The reality is the rest of the national team besides Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard have not yet recognised their full potential. They can defeat the major European nations. However, the problem has existed for a long now. They have failed to play in any major tournament since the year 2000. It is also bad news for the Ballon d’Or ambitions of Haaland as his competitors will play in the big tournaments. Would that actually be a factor in his hopes to win the individual accolade?
