It was an enjoyable battle with the two high-quality clubs taking on each other in the center of the Premier League. Liverpool’s star Mohamed Salah has once again proved to be the difference-maker for the team. The Reds made a comeback against Anfield yesterday, thanks to the Egyptian captain. But Jurgen Klopp’s team is now being advised on how to go ahead without depending on the Egyptian star.

Liverpool’s only title in the Premier League came during the COVID-19-effected period in the 2010–2020 season. But it looks like only one team, year after year, except last season, gave a tough fight to the table-toppers. However, this year could turn glorious for them if they improve in a certain area, says an expert.

Salah once again has been the most consistent player for the Reds. The player has already scored 16 goals and assisted eight times for the team. But that is the only main obstacle, says senior soccer journalist and expert Gabriele Marcotti. Speaking on ESPN FC’s podcast, he said, “If they can get to click as a team and maybe be less reliant on Mohamed Salah, especially after he goes away. I think they’ll be in a really good place to challenge for the title.”

You could assume that Liverpool’s attack has lost a bit of sting after losing players like Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, but it doesn’t reflect on their clutch performances. But Salah has been their top scorer consistently for the last six seasons. And Marcotti emphasizes the same fact: Liverpool should churn out a solution and gather better performances from other players.

Marcotti also felt that the Reds played much better than they did earlier in the tournament. And if they add more collectiveness to their contribution, they can ace the league this time. Liverpool are very close favorites to win the league this season.

Liverpool’s impressive season continues

Yesterday’s game against Arsenal was a battle for the top of the table. Liverpool, who is just a point behind the leader Arsenal, was able to stitch back the goal deficit they conceded in the 4th-minute goal from Gabriel. Led by Mohamed Salah, the team saw impressive performances again from Trent Alexander-Arnold Ibrahima Konate, and Joe Gomez, who were able to stop Arsenal’s attack from scoring the second.

This was the ninth time this season that Liverpool had come back from being a goal down. The club has managed to salvage a lot of points from these games. Therefore, the winning mentality is clearly visible. But as Marcotti said, if the team adds more goals from other players, it could potentially challenge Manchester City and Arsenal for the title.

One take at a time

Growing up in a sporting background, I found a passion for soccer through the remarkable 2002 World Cup-winning Brazilian football team. Watching the Premier League where Thierry Henry-starring ‘Invincible’ Gunners and Sir Alex Ferguson’s glorious Manchester United had ruled, I had my heart set on Arsenal. However, Ronaldo Nazario, Rivaldo, and Ronaldinho are my favorite players and Lionel Messi is the GOAT.
