“You Will Kill Me”- Hours After Slamming Crammed Schedule, Pep Guardiola States Haters Would Confront Him If Manchester City Splurged $1.3 Billion a Year Like Rivals

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has had a lot to say in the last few days. The team started their campaign on a good note with two wins over Burnley and Sevilla. The team lost a key figure in Kevin De Bruyne, for the upcoming months due to recurring ligament issues. The Citizens’ boss slammed UEFA and FIFA for their jam-packed schedule for not allowing players ample rest. Now the Spaniard’s comments have hit club critics before the game against Newcastle United.

A rival opposition has spent quite a few more million than Guardiola’s side this season. Pep Guardiola blasted critics claiming that if Manchester City had done the same, they would have eaten him alive. Chelsea has spent a massive amount over the last two transfer windows, the figures crossing the $1 billion mark.

Pep Guardiola was in no mood to take any prisoners in his latest press conference. The Manchester City boss touched down on the upcoming game against Newcastle United, claiming his team had no time to rest or train following the game against Sevilla.

When the Citizens’ boss was asked about his opinion on Chelsea’s splurge in the transfer window, the City boss claimed the side was doing what was needed to play the best soccer. However, Guardiola took the opportunity to slam Manchester City critics in the process, claiming that the critics would have killed him if they did the same thing.

“I couldn’t sit here if we spent what Chelsea spent in the last two transfer windows – you would kill me,’ he told reporters. “You will kill me, that is for sure. We’d be under scrutiny like you couldn’t imagine. We have to see what happens in the market and if we can do it and pay what we believe is fair”, as compiled by GOAL.

“In the end, we will pay what is fair to do it. Otherwise, we have the academy. We won’t be desperate just to get another player. I don’t criticize Chelsea for one second. I’m saying if we do it, we are dead all around the world. People’s mindset has to change – everyone spends. A lot. Not just City.”

It is true that clubs have been spending a lot in the past few transfer windows. With inflation in prices and the threat of Saudi Arabian soccer clubs looming over the top European sides, teams are being forced to pay in excess to land a signing.

Manchester City will now be in action against Newcastle United tomorrow in their first home game of the season. However, Eddie Howe’s men could be tough opponents for the side with City facing injury woes.

While Manchester City does have the advantage of playing at home, Pep Guardiola and his men will face a tough battle. Newcastle steamrolled Aston Villa in their opening game, trashing their opposition 5-1.

City will have to be on the top of their game with the likes of Ruben Dias, Kevin De Bruyne, and John Stones unavailable for selection. Pep Guardiola will have to dig deep and hope that the side can manage to hold the threat produced by the likes of Isak, Sandro Tonali, and Bruno Guimarães.
